Universal Credit Provides Special Support for Those with Terminal Illnesses

Anthony Lane

The UK’s Universal Credit system provides critical, fast-tracked support for individuals with a terminal illness through its Special Rules for Terminal Illness (SRTI). This provision, now available to those with a life expectancy of 12 months or less, eliminates stressful assessments and work requirements. Claimants receive the highest rate of health-related support (£423.27/month for 2024/25) from day one. The process is initiated with an SR1 form from a clinician, ensuring dignity and financial stability when it's needed most.
